Teen Drug Use is on the Rise
Illicit drug use remains high by high school teens, largely due to the increasing popularity of marijuana. I believe drug use is increasing in schools across the U.S. The reason for the overall increase is due to the use of certain drugs, for example marijuana use has increased dramatically. According to the MTF survey, in 2013, 7.0 percent of 8th graders, 18.0 percent of 10th graders, and 22.7 percent of 12th graders used marijuana in the past month, up from 5.8 percent, 13.8 percent, and 19.4 percent in 2008.
Another shocking statistic comes from http://www.teendrugrehabs.com/facts-and-stats/, they say 43% of high school seniors have used marijuana. That is almost half of the high school seniors surveyed. Its not just marijuana contributing to the rise in the number of uses of drugs. As you can see in this next statistic in general drugs have a strong presence on or around school grounds. According to the National Center on Addiction, 60 percent or more of teens in the survey reported that drugs are used, kept or sold at schools and 52 percent said there's a place on or near school grounds where students go during the day to use drugs, drink or smoke cigarettes. In conclusion, based on the evidence shown you can see that illicit drugs are present in many lives of high school teens and the number is increasing at this time.
